About the event
Join us at Carter James Ranch for our second Pasture Walk of the season.
This visit will be focused on all the “fowl” things happening on the ranch. Chickens on pasture, ducks in the pond, and the way birds fit into the bigger picture of land stewardship.
You’ll walk the pasture, meet the flock, see the sheep, and say hello to the newest additions to the ranch: our goats. We’ll talk through how different animals play different roles here of scratching, grazing, browsing, fertilizing, and helping us build healthier soil.
This is a relaxed, come-as-you-are visit. It is a time to ask questions, take your time, and enjoy being out on the ranch.
What to expect
Walk through pasture
Meet the chickens, ducks, sheep, and goats
See how animals help us manage pasture and build healthier soil
Learn how rotational grazing and animal movement fit into the way we raise food
Time for questions and conversation
What to wear
Boots or closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Families Welcome
Kids are absolutely welcome to join! This is a great chance for them to see animals up close and spend time out on the pasture. We just ask that they stay close as there’s plenty to explore, but this is still a working ranch. We do free-range our chickens and ducks, but the ranch isn’t set up for free-range children. We like to keep things calm and safe for both animals and people. Refreshments + Ranch Store
We’ll have complimentary fresh coffee available, and Pole Bakery sourdough treats will be available for purchase.
The ranch store will also be open after the walk for anyone who would like to purchase eggs or meat to take home. Parking
When you arrive, follow the driveway back toward the red and white barn where there is a parking pad available. We will have overflow parking in the pasture at the second cattle guard before the house/barn. You may be directed to park in the pasture depending on attendance, so please wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty and drive slowly as you come in.
